The Meaning of Life

Narrated on the authority of Abu Abd ar-Rahman Abdullah ibn Mas'ud [may Allah be please with him], who said: The messenger of Allah (saw) and he is the truthfull, the believed, narrated to us:
"Verily the creation of each of you is brought together in his mother's belly for forty days in the form of seed, then he is a cloth of blood for like a period, then there is sent to him the angel who blows the breath of life into him and who is commanded about four matters: to write down his means of livehood, his life span, his actions, and whether happy or unhappy. By Allah, other than Whom there is no God, verily one of you behaves like the people of Paradise (Heaven) until there is an arm's length between him and it, and that which has been written over-takes and so he behaves like the people of Hell-fire and thus he enters it; and one of you behaves like the people of hell-fire until there is but an arm's length between him and it and that which has been written-over takes him and so he behaves like the people of Paradise and thus enters it."

Qur'an 51:56 (Al-Dzariyah)
"I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me"

Qur'an 2:155 (Al-Baqarah)
"And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient"

Qur'an 2:30 (Al-Baqarah)
"And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: 'Verily, I am going to place khalifah generation after generations on earth.' They said: 'Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood -- while we glorify You with praises and thanks and sanctify You?' He (Allah) said: 'I know that which you do not'."

Qur'an 2:165 (Al-Baqarah)
"There are amongst men who take (for worship) others besides Allah as equal to Him. They love them as they should only love Allah. But those who believe have a much greater love of Allah."

Narrated by Ahmed, At-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Jarir [may Allah be pleased with them]:
"Once while Allah's Messenger (saw) was reciting this Verse (9:31), Adi bin Hatim said, 'O Allah's Messenger! They do not worship them (i.e the rabbis and the monks)'." Allah's Messenger (saw) said: "They certainly do. [They (the rabbis, the monks, etc) made lawfull things as unlawfull, and unlawfull things as lawfull, and they (the people) followed them; and by doing so they (the people) really worship them (the rabbis, monks, etc).]"

Qur'an 9:31 (At-Tauba)
"They (the Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah, and took Messiah, son of Mary, while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded to worship (in the Torah and Gospel) none but one Ilah (God -- Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having partners they associate (with Him)."

Qur'an 4:59 (Al-Nisa)
"O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and the Messenger and those of you who in Authority; and if ye have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the Messenger (Qur'an and Hadeeth) if ye are (in truth) believers in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more seemly in the end."
